Restaurant Shifts and Shakeups

This week: Fogo becomes Fumaca Brazilian Steakhouse, HA! fills the former Hunger space in Fremont, and the Silver Fork is saved...until April.

Fumaca Brazilian Steakhouse
After some issues over the name (presumably with Fogo de Chao), the onetime Fogo Brazilian Steakhouse at 101 Denny Way has been rebranded and is now open for lunch and dinner. Operated by former Ipanema Brazilian Grill employees, Fumaca will serve authentic cuisine from Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and of course, Brazilian barbeque.


Potbelly Sandwich Shop: First Hill
The chain is planting its fifth store in the area at 1200 Madison on First Hill, and this one will offer bike delivery. An opening date is still in the works, but it's looking like early September.

After Hunger left for a larger location, Alycia Prather and Al Chrismer are bringing HA! to 4256 Fremont Ave N. Named for Prather's distinctive and easily triggered laugh, HA! will feature a Mexican-American menu and specialty cocktails. If all permits go through, the duo is hoping for a September 10 open.

Bellevue Brewing
John Robertson may love his hometown, but laments that the city is "the biggest void of breweries in Western Washington." To right this apparent wrong, he's opening Bellevue Brewing on October 1 at 130th Ave NE and NE 20th St along with old friend Scott Hansen. The 12,000-square-foot space (not to mention the 6,000-square-foot brewhouse) will tender 12 in-house beers and locally sourced food.

Bait Shop
Linda Derschang's latest is replacing Bako on Broadway. The bar and restaurant will have a "Northwest nautical feel," and perhaps some taxidermy, and is slated to open in early November at 606 Broadway East.

Calozzi's Famouse Cheesesteaks: Georgetown
Eater Seattle reports Al Calozzi, owner of the popular Pioneer Square sandwich-and-pizza-shop Calozzi's, has acquired another location at 7016 E Marginal Way S in Georgetown. He plans to open the new shop, which will only serve Philly cheesesteaks, in October.


Silver Fork 
Concern from the community is keeping Silver Fork, which two weeks ago was on the brink of closing to make way for a Safeway gas station, open until April 2013, according to Facebook. The restaurant hopes to relocate after that.


Brian Clevenger, former executive chef at Serafina and Cicchetti, has stepped up as Tavolàta's new chef after the departure of Brandon Kirksey (now at Rione XIII). Clevenger intends to continue the Sunday Feasts that Kirksey started but will add his own twist. "That is where he will get to do his thing," says a rep. There are no major menu changes planned.

The sustainable sandwich shop is branching out into baked goods. Homegrown recently brought in Stephanie Shephard, formerly of Bakery Nouveau, to prep brownies, blondies, vegan apricot bars, and more. The goods are currently for catering purposes but will soon be available at the three stores. This new venture coincides with the local chainlet's move to a new HQ and commissary in South Lake Union.


Brave Horse Tavern: Tack Room
What once was Ting Momo (RIP) next to Tom Douglas's Brave Horse Tavern has reopened as the Tack Room, a semi-private annex that will supplement the main tavern area, says Washington Beer Blog. The Tack Room will allow for guests to call and reserve a table for groups or the entire space for private events, and will have its own bar in time.


Tony's Coffees & Teas
Phinneywood reports that the former lab and training space at NW 70th St and 3rd Ave NW in Greenwood has expanded into a full coffee bar serving up to five rotating, seasonal selections as well as brewed fresh-to-order drinks. This is the company's first coffee shop in Seattle, and will expand hours after Labor Day.

It's the moment we've waited 20 months for: Vessel is open at Seventh and Olive. The vaunted cocktail bar, which vacated it's original location on Fifth Avenue at the end of 2010 due to lease issues, has settled in some sleek, expertly designed digs. Cameo McRobert's lunch and dinner menu will debut on Monday, along with the full cocktail bill.  


Rain Modern Japanese Cuisine
After eight years of fusion sushi, Rain Modern Japanese Cuisine is up for sale. The restaurant will close August 31, though a sale has not been finalized yet (the owners are negotiating with two parties), according to Wallyhood.
