A former furniture shop (and hookah lounge) is now a massive beer hall.

On Wednesday the team behind Von Trapp's held a media event, and pretty much all we could talk about was how enormous the space is (10,000 square feet and 420 seats). It's by far the largest project from Deming Maclise and James Weimann, but packs the same aesthetic punch as Bastille, Poquitos, and Macleod's. The guys partnered up with Rich Fox and Dustin Watson, also managing partners at Poquitos; even on a dreary winter day, the beer hall-style area along the building's north side evokes Poquitos's popular indoor/outdoor patio space. The menu is full of beer and hearty German fare, and five indoor bocce courts await serious players and drink-downing dilettantes alike.

Von Trapp's opens officially on Sunday. But for now, have a look around. Maclise and Weimann brought back chandeliers, fireplaces, doors, panels, and other ornamentals from across Europe. And yes, there are TVs.
