WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11
Cupcake class at Lake Union Cafe
Three words: cupcakes and wine. The first of its kind at Lake Union Cafe, this cupcake class meets wine tasting is ideal for those whose decorating skills somehow improve the more wine is involved (e.g. this and this, too). From 7–9pm Wednesday evening, each student will receive a half dozen cupcakes—or blank canvases—in various flavors to decorate with guidance from Lake Union Cafe’s pastry chef. For those 21 and older, wine is available plus some knowledge on wine pairing. Save your creations as a gift for that special someone, or, you know, consume them all, shrug, and say, what cupcakes, dear?
Registration is $25 per person or $45 for a pair; RSVP for the class via email.
Cooking Classes Continue at Willows Lodge
Chef Bobby Moore of Barking Frog in Woodinville is set to show couples how to prepare some pretty romantic dishes. In the Fireside space at Willows Lodge, learn to make red beet pasta with herbed goat cheese and mascarpone filling as well as how to pair appropriate cocktails and wines with your dish. This “Cooking with Your Sweetheart” class is 5:30–7:30pm and is free, but arrive early because it’s first come first served.

Champagne Dinner at The Whale Wins
Channel your inner Francophile at this three-course sit-down dinner featuring a tasting of French champagnes. Renee Erickson’s sea creature themed restaurant in Fremont will be hosting this dinner full of good food, good company, and plenty of bubbly from 6–9pm. Space is limited; reserve your spot here.

Caramel Class with Hot Cakes’ Autumn Martin
Extend your Valentine’s Day fun times out on Whidbey Island to learn the art of caramel making. Autumn Martin, formerly of Theo Chocolate and founder of Ballard’s Hot Cakes, will be present at Kalakala Co. Mercantile to show you the secrets of dry burning sugar to create your own jar of scratch caramel. Reserve your sweet spot via email.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16
Tet: The Vietnamese New Year at Monsoon
In addition to the regular dinner menu, sibling chefs Eric and Sophie Banh are celebrating the Year of the Goat with six special dishes (all for just $12) on Thursday, February 19. Now there isn’t any goat meat involved, but these dishes, like the bánh tét with mung bean and pork belly, are traditional Tet fare and will be available at both Capitol Hill and Bellevue locations. Moreover, Monsoon will be offering these bánh téts in the restaurants and for takeout beginning Monday, February 16 in anticipation of the Lunar Year, which is officially Thursday, February 19. Happy Birthday, Golden Beetle
Aww Maria Hines’ Mediterranean restaurant is turning 4, so to celebrate happy hour will be offered all night long. And, hooray for birthday themes and deals: All happy hour items will be just 4 bucks for this one night. So, sip some beer and have a few mini burgers in honor of Golden Beetle going four years strong.
