If you're familiar with the Kraken, you know that the number "32" is kind of a big deal: Some 32,000 people plunked down season ticket deposits to help bring the 32nd franchise in the National Hockey League to Seattle. The team even retired the number at its first home game to honor fans, and named its restaurant in the Kraken Community Iceplex after the numeral (and, okay, a lawsuit).
As with every branded marketing venture, the team is taking it a step further on March 2 (3/2, get it?) with Kraken Day, a litany of local events, deals, and freebies for hockey fans decked out in team gear. Here are the businesses bringing on the fanfare.
The team restaurant (located inside the Kraken Community Iceplex) sure knows how to wring a theme for all its worth: 32-cent wings, $3.20 bottles of Coors Light, and $3.20 Westland whiskey lemonades. Announcers John Forslund and JT Brown will also host a watch party for the evening game against Nashville.
Seattle's OG hockey bar is keeping it 32 for Kraken Day: a $32 special for two craft cocktails and a flight of poutine, and Modelo tall boys for just $3.20.
Nothing says raging hockey fan quite like a glass of cabernet, amirite? The state's largest winery is offering 32 percent off purchases of three bottles or more of its 2017 Kraken Reserve cabernet sauvignon. Use the code "KRAKENDAY" or invoke the phrase at the Woodinville tasting room.
Seattle's sports radio station holds giveaways every hour. If you're the 32nd caller, you might win an autographed jersey or even Alaska Airline tickets.
The team's practice facility at Northgate doubles as a public ice rink and is doling out surprise giveaways all day, including 32 percent discounts on public skates, drop-in hockey, and stick and puck sessions (use the code "Kraken Day"). The Starbucks upstairs is also serving a special Kraken Day Frappuccino. Let's hope there's no salmon in it.
If you're gonna drink, might as well do it for a great cause. Queen Anne Beerhall will donate $3.20 from select pints to youth hockey orgs.
Slip in to this Montlake bar to watch the Kraken game and enjoy pints of Rainier for $3.20. Some yet-to-be-named food specials may also be in the works.
Move over scuba-diving Santa. On Kraken Day, the aquarium's famous diver will be wearing a Kraken Jersey. If your kid is one of the first 32 to show up, they'll also get a Kraken Crew Kit.
A crochet octopus hat, a Kraken jersey, it all counts. Show up in team gear and get $3.20 off admission to SAM.
Ready your Orca cards. Between 3:30 and 5pm, the Kraken Sea Squad (read: fan engagement team) is giving away branded beanies on select monorail rides.
Hockey fans are just like theater fans: We all like a good deal. On March 2, you can buy tickets to select Seattle Rep performances this season for just $3.20. Go online, call, or walk up and use the code "KRAKEN."
Movies, popcorn, soda—what's not to like? The first 32 people on March 2 who buy a ticket online to see The Batman at SIFF Cinema Egyptian get a voucher for a free popcorn and soda. Just a note, the actual movie showings don't begin until March 3.
