A Few New Burgers

Of course you’re hungry for a burger. It’s January.

January is for dieting, right? Gawd, no.

Two hot new spots are feeding southerly appetites with comfort food done smart. At Super Six in Columbia City, the menu offers riffs on the Korean-Hawaiian inspirations the Marination spots are known for: Hawaiian quesadillas, fries topped with kalua pork and kimchi mayo, garlic fried rice, that kind of thing. Among them is the Marination empire’s maiden burger, an intensely meaty beast with sweet pickles and kalbi-grilled onions on a potato bun.

Up the road on the Mt. Baker-Leschi Ridge, Heyday takes all the people-pleasing its owner perfected at his Geraldine’s Counter—and applies it to dinner. Nine or so burgers (including vegetarian, fish, and lamb varieties), boozy shakes, and vivid sides are the result.
