Schooner Exact Hoppy the Woodsman

Every year, the brewery’s Hoppy Holidays winter ale takes at least a six-month sojourn in barrels, returning with a bourbon character and just a bit of vanilla, caramel, and, yes, hops. The season is rife with culty winter beer releases; this is one of the best.

This blend of mostly syrah and merlot is easily one of the best values to come out of Washington this year with notes of plum, blue-berry, and chocolate backed by a silky smooth feel.

Westland Sherry Wood American Single-Malt Whiskey

Bartenders rave about this SoDo house of single-malt whiskeys—and that was before it became the first U.S. distillery to age significant amounts of the spirit in former sherry barrels. The results, due out this month, bear slight nutty, floral notes.
