Baseless Speculations

Mario Batali Drops Seattle Restaurant Tease on Twitter

He's probably not serious. Right?

Let's be clear about this—citing Mario Batali's Twitter feed as an official source of news is akin to consulting '80s Don Draper to stay abreast of current geopolitical events. But hey, it's still fun to ruminate about this tweet, dispatched by the Seattle-born chef, known in equal parts for Italian restaurants like Babbo, his presence on many a TV show, and his proclivity for Crocs.

Batali was in town this past week, tweeting up a storm about dining at places like Ma'ono and Palace Kitchen, and spending some quality time with Tom Douglas. I have yet to see a Batali event in Seattle where someone doesn't ask about him opening a restaurant. Usually he notes that there already is a Batali restaurant in town, and urges everyone to go eat at Salumi. This is the first time I've seen him allude, even vaguely or humorously, to the possibility of opening a place here.

Then again, Batali's Twitter feed is also full of hilariously inane retweets and use of words like "Wheeeeeeyumbang," so again—consider the source. Either way, we hope his rosiness had a great stay in Seattle.
