A wandering chef lands in U Village, two new joints from Skillet's Josh Henderson, and a Bavarian beer hall readies itself for Capitol Hill.

The Bavarian brew house is opening soon...with everything but the Von Trapp family.


Brass Tacks
Alex and Jonathan Parisi, owners of cocktail and sandwich joint Ground Control, have launched another establishment right next door. Brass Tacks shares a kitchen with its Control counterpart and is open from 11 to 11 Tuesday through Sunday. Eater Seattle stopped by to snap pictures.


Von Trapp’s
Capitol Hill will soon be alive with beer, brats, and bocce ball. This Bavarian beer hall, the latest from James Weimann and Deming Maclise, is expected to bow in early February. Enjoy the Munich-inspired menu while tossing the ball on one of five indoor bocce courts. That’s what we get for living in a rainy city, indoor lawn games. 

Yard House
The California chain will tap into its hefty arsenal of beer starting February 10. The bar and restaurant in downtown’s Century Square building represents Yard Houses' first property in the Northwest. 

Highscore Burgers
Full Tilt founder Justin Cline is branching out into burgers for his latest venture, slated to open March 1 in Redmond; another location is planned for Capitol Hill. Not surprisingly, both promise lots of ice cream, pinball and arcade games, and an emphasis on all things local.

Von’s 1000 Spirits Gusto Bistro
Ten different hamburgers, eight varities of French fries, French country pizzas, and a dizzying selection of spirits. That's what awaits when the new iteration of Von's opens on February 15 at the top of Harbor Steps.

Westward, Little Gull Grocery
Next up for Josh Henderson, founder of the Skillet Street Food empire: a full-service restaurant and bar, and an oyster counter and mercantile. Both Westward and Little Gull Grocery will open on the northern tip of Lake Union in the same building, a former catering venue. Eater Seattle has more details.


The Capitol Hill tavern closed for a few days to refurbish its bar and make a few interior tweaks. Now Smith is open again, with an updated menu and several more taps dispensing wine and cocktails to boot.

Ray's Boathouse
After nearly 40 years in the business and Ray's is looking good, thanks to a months-long renovation that freshened up the decor and added a 30-foot mahogany bar.


Garrett Brown
