The transformation of 606 Broadway East into a maritime bar is nearly complete, and sailors, that means it's only a matter of days until you can scope out that marlin. Bait Shop, the latest addition to the Linda Derschang constellation, will open December 10 in the space that for a flash housed Bako, and before that Jade Pagoda.

Adam Fream is coming over from The Sexton to direct the drinks program, which leans tiki (and sounds mighty nice on these inky evenings). A couple of machines will turn out margaritas, while the list of cocktails features a dark and stormy on tap using Rachel's Ginger Beer. Mai tais? Of course, plus the rum-pineapple-coconut cream concoction known as a Painkiller.

Forrest Brunton, who oversees culinary matters for all Derschang establishments, has worked with chef de cuisine Sayab Poot to develop a menu that includes fried chicken, fish and chips, barbecue pork rinds, and wedge salad. The move will mark familiar territory for Poot, who used to work at Bait Shop neighbor Poppy before jetting round the world.

Derschang teamed with Mallet Inc to create the nautical atmosphere, complete with knotty pine walls and sailboat-inspired light fixtures. Another thing you'll find at the bar: a record player, which patrons are most welcome to use.
