Thaiku Will Resurface In Phinney Ridge

The actual address isn't public quite yet, but allow us to connect the dots.

 When Thaiku closed its doors at the end of last year, owner (and jazz guy) Jon Alberts promised the popular Thai restaurant would eventually resurface elsewhere. The elsewhere in question, it turns out, is an undisclosed location in Phinney Ridge. Alberts doesn't want to give the actual address until Thaiku is closer to reopening--in early 2013. But the liquor license fairies suggest this might be a likely place to look.

Most of the original staff from the front and back of house will be at the new digs, according to a release. The menu will blend dishes from the original Thaiku with family recipes from the cooks and other staff who have been with the restaurant since the beginning, back when it was known as Fremont Noodle House (before its first relocation, and a name change, in 2001).

Fu Kun Wu, the adjacent cocktail bar that charmed Esquire magazine with its apothecary-inspired drinks will inspire the cocktail list at new location, along with a new slate of Thai-focused cocktails. Funny enough, a new pharmacy-styled bar, Percy’s, is going in just down the street from the original Fu Kun Wu and Thaiku location on Ballard Ave. That address, by the way, is now in the hands of Matador and Kickin' Boot Whiskey Kitchen owners Nate Opper and Zak Melang, and will open early next year as Ballard Annex Oyster House. Got all that?

The reopening will likely happen around the new year; keep an eye on Thaiku's Facebook page for more specifics.  The Fu Kun Wu weekly jazz nights, relocated after last year's closing, will remain at Scandinavian sibling bar Copper Gate, but cross your fingers for an occasional appearance at the new Thaiku.
