Poco Wine Room’s Spirited Reopen

It’s still a wine bar…but now with beer and cocktails.

Poco Wine Room’s new owner (and manager for the past three years), Rick Jones, didn’t change the establishment’s name. But when doors reopened this past weekend after a three-week remodel, the wine list shared menu space with a new roster of cocktails.

Jones purchased the wee Capitol Hill wine bar late last year. The temporary shuttering allowed him time to add more spirits, a few more seats, and some solid craft beers on tap. The cocktail list is heavy on classics, with a few fun diversions. The reworked bar is designed to accommodate the ice specifics and array of bottles that come with a cocktail menu.

Poco’s founders, Peter Moore and Bart Reynolds, are still very much a presence—in fact both men were on hand for Friday night’s grand reopen. Moore is staying on as wine director, which means Poco should remain an excellent destination for an intimidation-free wine education (oh, and the terrific happy hour is still in effect). Capitol Hill Seattle blog hit up last week’s pre-opening trial run and has some photos of the newly reconfigured space.
