Today Josh Henderson opens the first of four restaurants due this month, and the first of many locations of his new burger concept. Great State Burger is now dispensing double combos in Amazon’s new Doppler Campus at Seventh and Westlake. 

It's a burger joint in the vein of Shake Shack and In-N-Out, Northwestified with organic ingredients and sharp design. Burgers consist of a single or double patty (organic, grass-fed beef), unruly tangle of shredded iceberg, tomato slice, American cheese, and house sauce, palely pink in the vein of Thousand Island. Fries are crinkle cut (so on trend); milkshakes are thick and made with Parfait soft serve. Yep, there’s a soda machine, but it dispenses Jones Soda.

The space has a sort of Pacific Northwest pop art feel, with a layout clearly designed to process long lines. Though technically you can avoid them when online ordering kicks in. A private room with a big table should see its share of birthday parties. 

Henderson’s reportedly got another eight to 10 Great State locations in the works around the area. A second one arrives February 22 in Laurelhurst, on the heels of its next-door sibling—a bistro called Saint Helens, which opens February 15. Meanwhile, back in the Amazon, this newly opened Great State is connected to Bar Noroeste, a cantina heavy on tacos and tequila, that’s due in less than a week, on February 8.
