Presidential Debate and Patriotic Drinking, a Brief Guide
To wash down uncomfortable debate moments, several Seattle watering holes will have games, huge TV screens, and plenty of booze for your patriotic drinking needs. Here’s just a snippet of places at which to imbibe while civically engaging: Brave a drinking game at Big Mario’s where there will be pours of Altos tequila for $5. Prep for the debate screening at Revolver during its happy hour from 4 to 7. Capitol Cider has debate bingo cards, prizes, Jell-O shots, and cider flights; festivities start at 5. Up the street at the Comet Tavern: Donald Trump’s Frito bag of deplorables taco bar with Hillary’s purse hot sauce, served from 4:30 to 5:30 for $4. Meanwhile in Queen Anne, Tini Bigs and sister bar Hula Hula will once again sling politically themed cocktails. Both Peddler Brewing and Populuxe Brewing in Ballard are serving local beer with national politics. We could list more but we’d certainly go over our allotted time.

BlockToberfest at Paseo SoDo
For a block party, Oktoberfest, and fundraiser mashup see yourself to Paseo’s latest location in SoDo. Come Friday, from 3 to 9, there will be live bands, games, and food and drink deals: $3 canned beer, $2 off draft beer, $4 sangria, $3 roasted corn. Every succulent, Caribbean-style sandwich purchase comes with a raffle ticket and thus a chance to win Seahawks tickets. Funds from the raffle will go toward Haiti, a Caribbean country still struggling post Hurricane Matthew. More details at the Paseo Facebook page.

Rainier Beer Day
It’s a real thing otherwise known as R Day, which Governor Jay Inslee and Mayor Ed Murray has officially decreed to be October 22. Hear, hear! To celebrate, Rainier Beer is hosting an R Day party with KEXP from 5 to 11 at the Old Rainier Brewery—big neon R at the top, you can’t miss it. There will of course be beer flowing, including the recently re-introduced pale mountain ale. Beyond brews, there will be games and live music from Thunderpussy and Hobosexual.

Mario Batali with Tom Douglas
Two weeks ago Nosh Pit Weekly Planner gave a heads up about a certain orange-croc donning chef’s Seattle visit. Well, Mario Batali is just about here. Got your tickets yet? And if he takes questions, will someone please inquire about the White House State Dinner he made for the first family this week?
Please send event details for consideration to [email protected].
