March is turning out to be the month of shopping to give back. There is the Goodwill Designer Accessories Sale this weekend, plus Shop and Dine to Make a Difference—both in the U District. Next weekend, brides- and grooms-to-be will support Get Hitched Give Hope's charitable cause at the Hope Chest rummage sale.
And now, on a Nordstrom-size scale, the department store teams up with Piece and Co. and eight big-name designers like Theory, Alice and Olivia, and Tory Burch for a capsule collection that creates sustainable employment for women all over the world.
The collaboration—which launched at Nordstrom Downtown and Bellevue yesterday—created jobs for more than 5,000 female artisans living in countries from Mexico to India, Vietnam, and Zambia. These women create textiles using ancient weaving techniques, hand-carved wooden stamps, intricate dying and printing processes, and more. The materials are then incorporated into spring-ready pieces, including an indigo DVF wrap dress, a Rebecca Minkoff cross-body, and more.
