Tis the Season

On Location at the Sorrento Hotel for Holiday Style: Life's Rich Pageant

Take the historical perspective of an iconic Seattle landmark and add extravagance, mystery, and shine—and a few new elements of holiday style—and you've got the makings of a memorable party season.

Weather the season's celebratory bashes with a modern mix of chic suiting, dramatic glam, stand-out accessories, and one-of-a-kind vintage components that hold their own in the city's best decked-out halls and party rooms.

A mix of jewels, gems, and menswear elements creates a suitable mash-up for the vague irony and possible absurdity of the yearly office party. Peplum bustier by Devlin ($68), Nordstrom.

Frank and Eileen cotton shirt ($198), Dries Van Noten brocade pants ($1,250) and embellished wool jacket ($2,285), Barneys New York ($2,285). Dannijo Swarovski crystal necklace, ($550) and Iosselliani crystal and stud choker ($495), Hitchcock Madrona. Luly Yang '20s-inspired crystal headband ($380), Luly Yang Couture. Vintage satin-covered kitten heels ($42) and crocheted gloves ($33), Pretty Parlor.

This isn't the time of year to blend into your surroundings—unless you're doing so with grand, hypnotic purpose. Musani Gold beaded gown ($800), Dolce Bleu. We Like to Lounge leather and vintage pearl necklace ($285), Hitchcock Madrona.

A little mystery and a lot of leg never hurt anyone. Luly Yang silk-satin illusion netting high-slit gown ($6,400), Luly Yang Couture. Barneys Co-Op moto boots ($495), Barneys New York. Metal masquerade mask ($28), Dolce Bleu.

Another play on menswear: Short and not-entirely-sweet. Saint Laurent wool mini-dress ($3,490), Nordstrom. Jimmy Choo ankle-strap flats, similar styles available at Jimmy Choo. Ankle socks, stylist's own.

The ultimate luxury: lounging—perhaps in a suite at the Sorrento—in a shimmering, crystal-covered spaghetti-strapped sheath. Musani Gold ombre-beaded gown ($868), Dolce Bleu. Studded beanie, stylist's own.

Elevate everyday basics—the gray sweatshirt is certainly having a moment—with humor, sparkle, and an air of the playfully unreal. Philip Lim 3.1 embellished sweatshirt ($695) and
Tildon velvet shorts ($62), Nordstrom. Red velvet vintage coat (not for sale), Coleman Collections. Rhinestone masquerade mask ($128), Dolce Bleu. (Find similar styles at Pretty Parlor, Indian Summer, and Lucky Vintage.)

At the end of the evening, you'll be glad you went the distance and dressed to the nines. Vintage silk-satin strapless dress (not for sale), Coleman Collections. Vintage fur stole ($128), Pretty Parlor.
Black mesh T-shirt, stylist's own.
Wouters and Hendrix necklace with malacite and lapis ($500), Hitchcock Madrona. (Find similar styles at Pretty Parlor, Indian Summer, and Lucky Vintage.)
