Bainbridge-based Grain is the collaborative effort of design team Chelsea Green and James Minola. The brand's sustainably made modern goods are all produced locally or with small American manufacturers—with one exception: Grain's Guatemalan collections.
The duo first started visiting Guatemala as design students seven years ago. Since then they've been working to preserve the country's textile and dying heritage through annual small-batch productions of traditional goods. This year Grain met with several artisan groups in the Guatemalan highlands to create a line of woven throw pillows, towels, and cotton necklaces all naturally dyed by locals using ancient Mayan techniques.
