Can't figure out what to do with your too-formal bridesmaid's dress or blinged-out gala gown? We bet there's some stylish local high schoolers that can. And here's your chance to help them help you:

Donate your gently used formalwear to the Ruby Room on Capitol Hill, a nonprofit that provides gowns and accessories to local teen girls who are unable to purchase their own dance dresses. Not only does the boutique offer free attire and accessories, but every girl visiting the shop is assisted by a personal shopper who will help select and style her perfect outfit for the big day.

A 2012 survey by Visa found that prom goers are spending an average of $1,078 on the big event. Not only is this pretty outrageous (thanks, reality TV), but for many families that number is frankly out of reach.

Last year the Ruby Room provided formal looks for over 500 teens. Hoping to increase that number for 2013, the nonprofit is looking to you to donate shoes, handbags, jewelry, and dresses—especially in sizes 14 and up—in time for spring prom season.

To participate, stop by the shop's dress drive on Sunday, February 24 from 11 to 1. Out of dresses? Consider making a cash donation to the Ruby Room, or give some of your time by volunteering.
