For Today

Engaging the Next Generation in Computer Science

Up for a history lesson in tech? Computing Universe author Tony Hey traces the history of computer science in a talk Tuesday evening, from the early days to the present era of networked social media and artificial intelligence.

He also thinks that the next generation of children will be able to code. Scarier than robots stealing our jobs?

Engaging the Next Generation in Computer Science, Tues, June 23, 7:30pm, Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

For Wednesday

The Music Industry's Perilous Future

Where's the music industry headed? That's the question journalists like Stephen Witt try to answer after digital music sales overtook worldwide CD sales for the first time ever this year. Join him Wednesday with The Stranger's Sean Nelson as they discuss digital pirating and how it's changing music sales, for better or for worse.

The Music Industry's Perilous Future, Wed, June 24, 7:30pm, Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

Advance Notice for July 6

Back 'CRAVE,' Aneesh Sheth's Original TV Series

With actresses like Laverne Cox and award-winning shows like Transparent making waves in television, trans representation in media is on the rise. But Aneesh Sheth, who broke through as the first South Asian trans actress on TV in Outsourced, still feels her experience is underrepresented in the media.

That's why she's producing her own original series, CRAVE, which focuses in on the lives of three people: Bobbi, a gay man stuck in an abusive relationship and a job he hates; Karen, a military housewife who finds her marriage crumbling after her husbands return from a year away in Afghanistan; and Maggie, a trans actress trying to make her mark in show business.

She needs help to produce a full season—check out the pilot episode and help her raise $35,000 for a full season before July 6.

Back 'CRAVE,' Aneesh Sheth's Original TV Series, Kickstarter available online through July 6
