Rick Steves: Israelis and Palestinians Today

The Israel/Palestine conflict is complex, to say the very least. Travel writer Rick Steves has made a career out of taking the complex (What's St. Petersburg public transit like? How do I order a nonfat latte in Portuguese?) and making them accessible.

Get the Steves rundown of his experience in the West Bank region, accompanied by photographs and an inside look at his latest documentary Holy Land.

PSGA Presents the 22nd Annual Conference: Awakening Your Case!

Getting a novel published is hard. But have you ever tried writing a grant? For anyone attempting to fund a nonprofit, this is the first (and sometimes biggest) hurdle. And unlike figuring out how to make the perfect stir-fry, there aren't many how-to grant writing YouTube videos out there.

Luckily, the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association is about the throw their 22nd annual conference, where both experienced and prospective grantwriters can mingle and trade best practices. The keynote speaker will be Sonya Campion of the Campion Fountation, advocates of supportive funding for the nonprofit community.

Awaking Your Case!, Wed, Oct 29, 7:30am–4:30pm, Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Pl, $195

Washington Water Trails Association Film Screening

The WWTA Fall Paddling Seminar attracts a pretty niche group: river paddling enthusiasts. No one is going to knock paddlers for their hobby, but not everyone shares their passion enough to attend a two day seminar.

That being said, the issues being covered in the seminar's film screening—the impact of the Northern Gateway Pipeline on British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest—is a cause we can all get behind. Paddlers attending the Fall Paddling Seminar get in for free. The rest of us landlubbers must pay $15.

Film Screening Hosted by Blazing Paddles, Sun, Nov 2, 6–8pm, The 2100 Building, 2100 24th Ave S, $15
