If you like to kick off your day shouting like an unhinged sports fan about this state's culinary excellence, or you just want to know where to eat—well, the James Beard Foundation just announced its long list of semifinalists. And Seattle, as usual, is all over the place. 

Very notably, in the national categories, Mike Easton's Il Corvo follow-up Il Nido popped up in Best New Restaurant, Cafe Juanita's Holly Smith is up for Outstanding Chef, and Canlis (a big winner last year) is hanging out in Outstanding Hospitality. While this year's redrawn regional districts added Hawaii to the Northwest and Pacific category, the (newly rechristened) Best Chef Northwest and Pacific is typically flush with local talent, from By Tae's Sun Hong to Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi of Joule.

The semifinalists get winnowed down to proper nominees on March 25. Then on May 4 winners are announced at the gala in Chicago.
