A la Mode Pies, the beloved Phinney Ridge pie hangout, opens a second location today, Monday October 3, in West Seattle complete with its own brand new line of ice cream, PiesCream.
Ice cream is available by the pint at both locations. Right now it’s just Mexican chocolate and Madagascar vanilla, but a total of six pie-inspired flavors such as Bourbon Butterscotch and Spiced Apple will eventually join the roster. Owner Chris Porter also devised some seasonal ice cream offerings, that naturally, include a pumpkin pie flavor. Any and all ice cream can be combined with alcohol, fruit, and other toppings to fulfill its boozy milkshake destiny.
Before the desserts, however, there’s also the new savory pie menu, the result of a recent partnership with Jack Timmons of Jack’s BBQ. The pairing will combine slow-roasted meats from Jack's with Porter's flaky pie crusts. The final product: Your choice of slow-braised beef and potato, spinach and feta, chicken pot pie, barbecue pulled pork, and the Mexican-inspired Hey, Hey Olé—a Porter family celebrated recipe.
PieFries (crispy shreds of pie crust with various seasonings) and some soups and salads round out the menu, along with beer, wine, and Umbria Coffee in regular and nitro cold brew form. Happy hour here is known as "pie time," and kicks off daily at 3:14pm.
Porter has fitted the airy room with vintage chandeliers and antique pie-safe-turned-coffee-station; rustic wood planks from an old barn in Duvall support the myriad of unique pie racks around the space. The low bar affords a front-row seat to watch the piemaking process. The new cafe also has the same lineup of fruit and cream pie desserts as the original shop on Phinney.
A La Mode West Seattle is located at Junction 47 (4225 Southwest Alaska Street) near the corner of Alaska Street and California Ave, and is open from 8am to 10pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 8am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
