After a full rebuild, a lot of strategically cut green turf, and about a week long preview, Flatstick Pub is finally open at 240 Second Ave S. Just follow the stairs down into this subterranean playground for grownups.
Owner Sam Largent has filled this 9,000 square-foot space with over a dozen TVs for sports spectating during rounds of miniature golf and rounds of local beer. There are 36 taps of Washington brews, ciders, and wines from the likes of Old Stove Brewing, Boundary Bay, Silver City Brewery, and more. Perfect for those whose golfing skills magically improve with every pint of local lager.
Beside the front bar are 10 duffleboard tables, a game of Largent's creation that combines shuffleboard with minigolf, plus two more tables in back next to the nine-hole miniature golf course. The final hole, if played right, sends your golf ball up a 14-foot Space Needle with glowing green lights. Best have that Rocky theme song queued up.
On the perimeter of the back area there are little alcoves with seats, each equipped with its own TV, as well as a board game zone, a robodub track, and a sort of micro-theater, where Largent plans on hooking up old-school video games. Also coming soon: a pinball and golf game. Yes, it's another inventive hybrid of Largent’s imagination.
With craft beers flowing, food is not too far behind. Soon, Manuel Alfau of Manu’s Bodega will bring a taqueria for Flatstick gamers. It will be a street-level spot, situated between Goodbar and the Il Corvo Pasta Studio; pick up guisado-style tacos here or downstairs. Choose from tacos filled with chicken mole, pulled beef, braised pork rinds, and chorizo and potatoes. Big also: There will be a queso dip of the Austin, Texas taqueria persuasion.
As for the grand opening today, there will be half-priced membership deals and merch for purchase from noon to 3, plus free aforementioned tacos from 6 to 8.
