Casco Antiguo Is Headed to Pioneer Square

The new project from one of the guys behind Altstadt will be a Mexican restaurant up front and a party (technically a cantina) in the back.

A Mexican restaurant slash cantina will soon inhabit 115 Occidental Ave S, the former home of Calozzi's. Casco Antiguo is the brainchild of Harvey Ward Van Allen, though it's several continents removed from his other Pioneer Square establishment—German beer hall Altstadt on First Avenue.

Van Allen says he's a big fan of both traditional Mexican food and the man who will be heading up the kitchen at his new establishment. Rodolfo Riveron (he goes by Rudy) was born and raised in Mexico City and was most recently the chef at the Saint.

Casco Antiguo will be split into a restaurant up front and a (presumably rowdier) cantina in back, with the kitchen in the middle. Anyone seeking the cantina can access it through a hallway from the main Occidental Avenue entrance, or from the rear alley for maximum old-school Pioneer Square atmosphere. Van Allen and his partners, Paul and Tom Lyman, are busy building out the space, which he says could be ready by the end of November.
