Sweet Week Is Kinda Like Restaurant Week

But with more ice cream and less pandemonium.

Awww, this is a great idea. Hot Cakes owner Autumn Martin marshalled dessert purveyors across the city to put on a sweets-focused event that resembles Restaurant Week in spirit, but presumably without all the crowds and chaos that can make this noble concept straight-up terrible.

Here's the deal: From September 25 to 28, each place will sell a special $5 sampler—or kickass single item—made specifically for sweet week.

A score of local confectioners are taking part, including cookie emporium Hello, Robin, High 5 Pie, gluten-free and vegan Flying Apron, Dahlia Bakery, Parfait ice cream patisserie, Sweet Mickey's candy shop, The Confectional, Mighty-O Donuts (also vegan!), Chocolopolis, Martin's own Hot Cakes (duh), and her alma mater Theo Chocolate.

No specifics yet on what each place will serve—that info comes September 15 via a Sweet Week website. But I'm crossing my fingers Hot Cakes's offering includes s'mores and am already excited to explore some broad and sugar-laden terrain in exchange for a relatively modest cash outlay. The takeaway nature of sweets does seem better suited to discount-seeking crowds than a sit-down dinner.

While we're on the topic, here's a quick look at some of our favorite new confectioners in town.
