Capitol Hill’s Capitol Cider introduced a new chef and menu last week. As CHS reported the owners have hired Nicholas Short—who hails from Smith and Brave Horse Tavern—to make the menu “more compelling and inspired.” Still sticking with its gluten free roots, of course.
As is a common occurrence for highly anticipated restaurant openings, sometimes the first go, isn’t the best go. But for us that means new dishes and a reason for another visit—especially for a pint of cider on happy hour.
So here’s the lowdown on the new happy hour menu: prices range from $3 to $7 and it’s available all week from 4 to 6 and 10 to midnight, though Friday and Saturday late hours are 11pm to 1. Eats still include the cider battered fish and chips (it wouldn’t be an English-style pub without them) and new snacks like grilled corn with harissa butter and jar of pickled vegetables. Anthem Cider varieties are $4 and two Westons brand ciders, extra dry and special reserve, are $6.
Opening this past April, this bar has 36 rotating taps, with about six dedicated to cider. Happy hour is from 4 to 6:30 with $1 off taps and $6 wine and cocktail specials. Crispy potato skins with goat cheese fondue, deviled eggs, a shrimp and squid ceviche, and blackened cod or pulled pork tacos all come in at $5 a plate.
The Noble Fir
The Sixgill's sister bar in Ballard also likes to dedicate a few handles to cider. And daily (closed Monday) from 4 to 6:30 all drafts are a dollar off. The newest edition to the cider pours is a semi-dry blend from Snowdrift Cider Co. There are no food specials to speak of, but small plates of charcuterie, pate, cheeses, and vegetables make for a nice snack.
The Park Pub
A recent change in ownership has brought new life to this Phinney neighborhood hang out. The new owners are gearing up for Seahawks season with more TVs, and a new menu is in the works. Happy hour is 3 to 6 daily, with a late run Sunday through Thursday from 10 to 11pm. Pub grub, like nachos and a housemade pretzels are on special, and it's $1 off all of the 15 draft beers, which includes a Tieton Cider made from Yakima apples.
