Four New Places to Drink in 2013

Watering holes that opened amidst the holiday rush.

Bellevue Brewing
The major brewery and pub project in woefully underserved Bellvue has been pouring oatmeal stout and Scotch ale since December 12. Cofounder Scott Hansen also founded Leavenworth Biers, so clearly the man knows what he's doing. The taproom is family friendly, boasts a giant projector screen, and serves a menu of soups, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and snacks. Check out the hours and other details over here.

Hillside Bar
The team behind Hooverville in SoDo has recast the Elite space on East Olive Way as a friendly neighborhood hang with a solid selection of beer and brown liquor. Hillside opened in the first half of December. Also on premises: pool, darts, and pinball.

Sam’s Tavern
A grand opening on New Year’s Eve? Owner James Snyder isn’t messing around. The burger bar opened December 31 in the former Chino’s space on Pike/Pine. The menu mixes “gourmet burgers” with $6 bar snacks and barbecue. Snyder is the son of the first Red Robin franchisee, and both the name and the bottomless fries are a nod to his heritage. 

Speckled and Drake
Owner Justin Martinsen is a Seattle native, but has owned Brooklyn bar Duckduck since  2006. Now he's home and running a similar neighborhood spot on Capitol Hill at 1355 E Olive Way. The space (formerly the Living Room) is tricked out with stuffed ducks aplenty and the drinks menu includes lots of beer and shot combos, like the Fisherman's Friend, aka an Oly and a shot of Beam. Martinsen says he's been surprised with Seattle drinkers' thirst for craft cocktails, so he's working on expanding his list. Right now Speckled and Drake is open from 5 to 2 seven days a week. Well drinks are $3 and everything else is $1 off until 8pm.
