First Look: Vessel

One of the best cocktail bars in the city is reborn, after a 20-month absence, in a sleek new space.

The waterjet-carved bar front and exceptionally comfortable stools.

Calling Vessel's Tuesday-night opening a soft one is kind of a joke, given the stampede of drinkers filling the place every night since then. And even if the drinks weren't stellar (they are) the space alone is worth a visit. Jim Romdall and Clark Niemeyer painstakingly designed a masculine-leaning space punctuated by leather, steel, red resin, and other memorable materials. And if I were really tall and possessed a comically enormous purse, I would steal that chandelier in a heartbeat.

Check out photographer Lucas Anderson's photos in the slideshow above. The cocktail lounge, back after a 20-month hiatus, launches its full menu of lunch, dinner, and booze on Monday.
