Every month, the trio of Blue Moon Burgers locations do a special burger, usually a decadent conglomgeration of red onions and blueberry ketchup (July) or green chile nacho cheese sauce and crispy tortilla bits (May). The August special, however, was designed by sex columnist and inspiration-at-large Dan Savage. It seems Savage has been known to stop in to the Broadway location for a bacon swiss burger, so the folks at Blue Moon asked him to create an amped-up version to feature throughout August.

The resulting Savage Love Burger costs $10.74, and 25 percent of the proceeds to go Washington United for Marriage to support Referendum 74, which would enact the same-sex marriage laws approved by the Legislature earlier this year.

The third-of-a-pound patty is topped with melted Swiss and applewood-smoked bacon. A sprinkling of onion straws adds some crispiness to the proceedings. The aforementioned amping up involves roasted red pepper aioli and some mixed greens, sandwiched, in the most literal sense of the word, between two toasted buns. This most savage of burgers will be on the menu at Blue Moon's Capitol Hill, Fremont, and South Lake Union locations starting today, August 1.
