We get it. National food "holidays" can be gimmicky as hell. And serious question: Is it not fried chicken day all time and everyday? No? Damn. Still, to celebrate such a revered and renown national holiday, here are four spots to get some damn tasty chicken (and one do-it-yourself recipe). 

Sisters and Brothers
The Georgetown restaurant and bar recently started serving brunch and, as of yesterday, now serves lunch. So there’s no excuse: Try their signature Nashville hot chicken prepared at a variety of spice levels such as naked, mild, medium, and insane. Insane of course being the level at which your pores are crying and you solely drink milk for the rest of the week.

Sunset Fried Chicken
Rachel’s Ginger Beer on 12th Avenue houses Monica Dimas’ perma-popup of hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, and various chicken sandwiches. Pop in for the chicken slider du jour during happy hour from 4 to 6, test drive the classic chicken sandwich, aka The OG, or maybe get spicy with the Picante, a sandwich of pickled jalepeños and chili mayo.

Bok a Bok
Brian O’Connor’s White Center spot for Korean-style fried chicken opened last month and has crispy-spicy chicken, plenty of sides, oh, and champagne service for your holiday needs. Order chicken and a choice of sauce like the four chili hot sauce, korean barbecue, or sesame garlic. Then add a side like kimchi mac-and-cheese because balanced meals are important.

Fat’s Chicken and Waffles
Where every day is national chicken day and every meal can be breakfast. This Central District restaurant has chicken in the class iteration with two fried legs, or go for the titular fried chicken and waffles with syrup, or perhaps the chicken sandwich with pimento cheese, pickles, and greens.
