2011 Domaine La Garrigue 'Cuvée Romaine' Côtes du Rhône

Indiana country boy come Seattle wine expert Kurt Schlatter's oeno-odyssey began at the Northwest Wine Academy. Schlatter currently works as part of the sales team at A and B Imports. Here, he suggests a bottle from the Rhone because, "it just seems so seasonally perfect."

So, what do you think Kurt Schlatter, what should I drink tonight?

Once the fall chill and clouds become a regular part of October, I find myself craving the warm flavors of a really good Côtes du Rhône. Domaine La Garrigue is named after the wild herbe de Provence and ground cover in Provence known as Garrigue, and you'll catch a terrific whiff of those herb and lavendar scents when you pour a glass. This bottle nicely amps up the brambliness of Côtes du Rhône by having a higher than normal percentage of mourvedre in the mix, along with the expected grenache and a bit of syrah. There's lots of depth to the flavors coming from the age of these vines that were planted just after WWII. Super tasty, and an easy pairing partner for all your favorite fall comfort foods like roasted delicata squash or pork shoulder.

Price: $15
