Meet Varsha

''A lot of times, a print or texture will be the beginning of a whole collection for me. Fabrics in general are a huge source of inspiration. Sometimes, it can be an image, or a design I saw from the runway that will stay with me. My inspirations are never the same, changing from season to season, but I always come back to my muse who is the modern working woman.''

Cutout Classics

''This dress was born out of my experiment with cutouts. This one is made in a striking yellow wool crepe and has the cutout placed pretty close to the neckline. I love the color of this dress. While you may think that yellow is a difficult color to wear, this particular shade of yellows compliment every skin tone.''

Everyday Luxury

''This dress is a classic sheath in a luxurious ivory wool crepe. It came about while I was playing with the idea of cut outs and figuring out ways of placing them without the making the dress look inappropriate for a work setting. The cutouts are placed high up near the shoulders, which makes for a comfortable wear and adds a touch of interest.''

Easy Elegance

''This look has a very feminine undertone to it. The skirt has a long fitted silhouette with a front slit. The flower motifs are hand embroidered to add a little more texture. Paired with the draped peplum top, the look speaks easy elegance—apt for that garden party or a night at the galleries. I would wear this look every day!''

Perfect Pairing

''I would love to dress Natalie Portman. She is the embodiment of my muse—the strong, intelligent woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. She screams silent confidence and I respect that. We've come to the end of this year 's IDRS Files and in a matter of hours eight local designers will showcase their beautiful creations at the Independent Designer Runway Showcase as part of Fashion Week at the Bellevue Collection.

Varsha Agrawal rounds out our profiles of each featured personality behind IDRS 2015. While the womenswear designer may be new to the city, (she moved her less than a year ago), her creations have already made quite an impact. Combining sleek feminine silhouettes with bold and bright hues, Varsha's collection breaths new life into workday style.
