It seems that les femmes are running the collaboration show these days: first with Parisian darling Isabel Marant's upcoming capsule collection for H&M, and now French designer Catherine Malandrino's line for the Kohl's Design Nation campaign. Très chic.
Following on the heels of Narciso Rodriguez's Istanbul-inspired looks and a Rio-themed summer collection from Derek Lam, Malandrino draws inspiration from her home country's capital city for the department store's series of guest collaborators.
Much of the collection echos Malandrino's fall ready-to-wear line, with art deco influences and voluminous cuts (ie: this dress informing this dress), and she portrays her city in all its neutral-palette, cafe-culture glory. We love the baroque patterns and Gothic textures, and feel, you know, as good as there is to feel about the Eiffel Tower motif—which is done well on the sheer dress below but seems a bit overdone in some of the patterned pieces.
The collection, priced between $30 and $130, hits stores and goes live online on Friday, September 27. We'd expect at least a hint of an early morning hubub, so pick up a baguette before lining up at the nearest Kohl's locations in Redmond or Tukwila.
