Olga Sagan, the sole owner of the nationally renowned Piroshky Piroshky Bakery, is the heart and soul of the beloved establishment. Having immigrated to the US from Russia at the age of 16, Olga’s journey to success has been filled with determination and resilience.
Since its founding in historic Pike Place Market in 1992, Piroshky Piroshky has gathered fans and accolades worldwide. The bakery was featured on an episode of the renowned travel and food series Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and has been highlighted by NPR, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Eater, Thrillist, and CNN. The Smithsonian even listed it as one of “The 20 Most Iconic Food Destinations Across America.” It’s not only the tasty baked goods garnering attention and praise. Olga has made a name for herself as a business leader and community advocate.
Since taking over complete ownership in 2017, Olga has steered Piroshky Piroshky to new heights, expanding its reach and influence. Today, the bakery boasts its original Pike Place Market location, three additional storefronts, a food truck, and nationwide pop up events. Olga’s commitment to local ingredients has led to collaborations with iconic Northwest businesses such as Field Roast, Uli’s Famous Sausages, and Tillamook. In response to evolving dietary preferences, she introduced a Vegan Line, ensuring that Piroshky Piroshky remains inclusive and accessible to a wide range of customers.
In 2018, she earned her SHRM certification, enhancing her knowledge of effective leadership and management practices. In addition to advocating for opportunities for small business to succeed, Olga champions the arts and mental health. Her dedication to empowering others and fostering a positive work environment earned her recognition as a small business hero by the Puget Sound Business Journal in 2019 as well as the Small Business Administration’s “Business Owner of the Year” for the state of Washington.
