One Big KISS for Seattle Children’s Radiothon
For its 14th year, KISS 106.1 turns your morning radio jam into an all-out donation blitz benefiting Seattle Children's, the resource center, advocate, and general goodwill ambassador for pediatric care.
Tune in as host Bender relays heartwarming stories and testimonies of Seattle Children's patients. If you happen to be commuting, be sure to drive safely as you cry alternating tears of joy and sadness. The pledge continues all day; donate online or by calling in.
For Thursday
LGBT Commission
Like the arts commission PubliCalendar wrote about last week, the LGBT commission is comprised of 15 citizens appointed by the mayor's office and city council to, in short, be an advocate for and advisor of concerns related to the LGBTQ community.
The commission meets monthly to discuss legislation, policy, programs, and budget items. These meetings are open to the public.
LGBT Commission, Thu, Dec 18, 6:30pm, Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Ave, Free

The Power of Public Unions
Regardless of where you stand on any issue, watching two people formally argue either side in a civil and educated debate is one of the best ways to become better informed yourself.
The issue on the table at this forthcoming debate is the public union. Longtime union member Daniel DiSalvo thinks, despite the legitimate reasons behind their drafting, public unions only cripple government services. In the other corner, University of Washington professor Michael McCann thinks public unions have many positive effects on workers and the surrounding community. The debate is moderated by KUOW’s Ross Reynolds.
The Power of Public Unions, Tue, Jan 13, 7:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5
