PubliCalendar: Philanthropic Back Patting

For Wednesday
National Philanthropy Day
If there is one thing you can say about philanthropists, its that they are really good at doing selfless things with their money. If there is a second thing you can say about philanthropists, it's that they are just as good at honoring each other for doing selfless things with their money.
At National Philanthropy Day, come be part of the back patting and know it is, as always, for a good cause. Five local honorees, including individuals and institutions, will be honored for their commendable work in putting time, money, and effort toward their passion for helping others.
National Philanthropy Day, Wed, Nov 5, 11:30am–1:30pm, Westin Seattle, 1900 Fifth Ave, $90–$1,000
For Thursday
Elevating Health in Regional Transportation Planning
Concerned over how the city is (or is not) disseminating cash throughout the local public transit system? If you are reading PubliCalendar, the answer is likely yes.
Sit in on a conversation with the Puget Sound Regional Council and national experts on the topics of public spending and transportation priorities. Case studies and best practices are up for discussion, probably including a lineup of cities that are doing the whole public transit thing better than we are.
Elevating Health in Regional Transportation Planning, Thu, Nov 6, 1–5pm, PSRC Board Room 1011, Western Ave, Ste 500, Free

Climate Change, What's the Solution?
Bastyr University's free evening discussion about the impact of climate change is going to spend less than 40 minutes debating whether or not we humans are the root cause of global warming. Because if there is a fire in the kitchen, the least helpful course of action is to argue over who started it. By the time you've agreed to disagree, the house has burnt down.
For the remainder of the event, four expert panelists from different industries will present four possible solutions to the looming problem: new technology, market solutions, play damage control, and social change.
Climate Change, What's the Solution?, Wed, Nov 12, 6–8:30pm, Bastyr University Auditorium, 14500 Juanita Dr NE, Free
