Wait, What?

Russell Wilson On a Baseball Card?

It shows the Seahawks’ star QB in a Texas Rangers uniform, but don’t worry. He’s not going anywhere.

This Bowman baseball card is a glimpse into another dimension, an alternate reality in which a man from Virginia didn’t write himself into Seahawks history. The card, available April 30, features Russell Wilson in a Texas Rangers uniform, and it functions as a scary what if. What if Wilson had found his path with a bat instead of the pigskin? He did play pro baseball, briefly, including a stint with the Tri-City Dust Devils in Pasco, Washington. When the Rangers drafted him in December 2013 for $12,000 it was essentially a publicity stunt, but the card is a reminder of how fragile our reality always was, where a five-foot-eleven, third-round pick led the Hawks to a Super Bowl win and changed a city forever.
