Flashback Friday: Rodney Tom "Fervently" Believes We Need to "Maintain a Woman's Right to Choose"
Given this week's big showdown in Olympia—Senate Majority Coalition Caucus leader Sen. Rodney Tom (D-48, Medina) shut down minority senate Democrats' efforts to vote on the Reproductive Parity Act not once but twice—we thought this 2010 campaign trail interview we did with Tom made for a timely Friday afternoon video.
Planned Parenthood Votes NW has made the RPA, which would require insurance companies that cover maternity care to also cover abortions, a priority this year because they're nervous that implementing Obamacare may give insurers an excuse to stop covering abortions.
At about the 2:30 mark in the video, asked about his 2006 switch from Republican to Democrat, Tom told us:
"I have fervently believed that it is important that we maintain a women's right to choose."
