On Other Blogs Today: Koster's Contradictions

By Erica C. Barnett September 28, 2012

1. The Seattle Times
' Emily Heffter reports that 1st Congressional District candidate John Koster, a Republican, has two conflicting explanations for his votes against five of six state budgets as a legislator: First, he said that he opposed budgets that expanded government. But second (whoops!) he said he voted against the budgets because he didn't read them, which makes his first explanation pretty implausible.

2. Washington State's minimum wage is going up to $9.19 an hour, or around $19,000 a year for full-time work. The liberal Economic Opportunity Institute says that's not enough to meet basic human needs
; the libertarian Washington Policy Center says the higher minimum will hurt small businesses.

3. A new Rasmussen poll
shows the Washington State governor's race at a dead heat, with Democrat Jay Inslee (barely) in the lead at 46 percent, and Republican Rob McKenna at 45 percent.

4. A Senate GOP staffer has reached a settlement in a lawsuit alleging that Republican Sen. Pam Roach (R-31) created a hostile working environment; according to reports in the Seattle Times and the Tacoma News Tribune
both sides are declaring victory.

5
KOMO Radio's resident crank (we mean that in a nice way!) Ken Schram says getting rid of the ride-free area unfairly penalizes the poor and homeless.

6. Seattle Transit Blog's Bruce Nourish makes the case for demolishing KeyArena, which he calls "a blight" on the surrounding neighborhood.
