On Other Blogs Today: Taxes, Pot, and Debates
1. The Seattle Times
reports that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee has acknowledged making an error on his income taxes; his Republican opponent Rob McKenna, meanwhile, continues to refuse to release his tax returns.
2. The AP has the details on a new American Civil Liberties Union report that says the state of Washington has spent more than $211 million in the last ten years enforcing marijuana laws.
3. Michael Baumgartner, the Republican state senator who's running against US Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), has asked Cantwell for 39 debates---one for each county in the state, the Spokesman-Review reports. UPDATE: A Cantwell spokesman affirms that the senator does plan to debate Baumgartner (though not, presumably, 39 times).
4. The state Public Disclosure Commission has ruled that the Catholic Church can't collect money in the pews to defeat R-74, the gay-marriage referendum; the Bellingham Herald has more.
5. Crosscut's "Mossback," Knute Berger, inveighs against Seattle dog owners who think their dogs are people.
6. Finally, at the Washington Post, Ruth Marcus doesn't buy Ann Romney's "I'm just a regular mom like you" pitch to women. "I understand that the Romney campaign faces" a gender gap, she writes. "But is the best way to counter this to turn women into another interest group that requires intensive stroking and assurances about how special they are?"
