Afternoon Jolt: The Seattle Channel

By Afternoon Jolt June 15, 2011

Today's winner: The Seattle Channel.

The Seattle Channel---including all-star newsy C.R. Douglas, who's leaving the channel after nearly a decade hosting public affairs shows including "City Inside/Out"---won four Northwest Emmy Awards this past weekend, including one for a show Douglas hosted on the prospect of an income tax in Washington State.

The shows that won the honors were: "Citystream," for an informational show on the Harry Potter exhibit at Pacific Science Center; a special program about the restoration of Georgetown's historic Hat n' Boots sculpture (which won two separate Emmys); and "City Inside/Out."

Congrats to C.R. and all the other winners.

Today's loser: City Council incumbent Jean Godden.

Godden, a two-term incumbent, came in dead last in the race for the 43rd District Democrats' endorsements last night
, after challengers Michael Taylor-Judd (23.4 percent), Bobby Forch (33.3 percent) and Maurice Classen (59.2 percent). You need 60 to get the endorsement, and Classen, a domestic violence prosecutor for the King County Prosecutor's Office, won the endorsement after a second round of voting with 64 percent.

Godden didn't even show up to the endorsement meeting, which was in the U. District.

In 2007, Godden didn't get the endorsement either---but neither did her opponent, schoolteacher Joe Szwaja.
