Jolt
Afternoon Jolt: Quote of the Day
As we've reported, Mayor Mike McGinn has refused to tell the city council where he thinks they should cut his transportation budget (the council does not support McGinn's proposal to raise the commercial parking tax to pay for his "Walk Bike Ride" initiative, and has asked the mayor to find cuts elsewhere if that initiative is his top priority). This morning
, McGinn sent the council a letter reiterating his contention that everything in the transportation budget is a priority.
Asked what he thought of McGinn's letter, council president Richard Conlin (earning PubliCola's daily Jolt honors for a pithy anti-McGinn quote for the second time in less than a week) said: "I guess Walk/Bike/Ride is his lowest priority"—calling McGinn's bluff by indicating that without McGinn's direction, the council will simply eliminate the parking tax increase. Under that scenario, McGinn's Walk/Bike/Ride programs would be the first to go.
