Afternoon Jolt
1. Today's winner: Obama-style education reformers such as the League of Education Voters, Stand Up For Children and Partnership for Learning
After education reformers were outplayed in Olympia this year, when the teachers' union's compelling "One size doesn't fit all" sound bite carried the day and prevented legislation that would have tied teacher evaluations to student progress (because, the union argued, evaluations need to differ from district to district), reformers called the union's bluff this spring and brought the teacher eval fight to the Seattle School District.
Today, the unions, after a successful campaign by reformers, are set to approve a contract that includes evaluating teachers through student performance.

2. Today's Loser: Patty Murray
Dino Rossi is ahead of Murray in the latest polling.
