1. Northwest News Network's Austin Jenkins—on his "The Washington Ledge" blog—found  out
just how important the new candy and pop taxes are to the industry: The American Beverage  Association has poured more than $1 million into the campaign for Initiative 1107, which would roll back all those taxes.

Emily Heffter, writing on the Seattle Times Politics Northwest blog, points out a little-covered side effect of Deputy Mayor Phil Fujji's departure from office in April and Mayor Mike McGinn's subsequent hire of anti-tunnel advocate Tim Killian: Many of the tasks Fujii used to handle have now fallen into the hands of Ethan Raup, McGinn's senior adviser.

Does this mean Raup is next in line for the deputy mayor position? Erica followed up on Heffter's reporting and asked. McGinn's office would not say.
