Politico has the scoop that Dino Rossi will announce his candidacy to take on U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) this week.
We reported last week that the big hold up was Rossi's search for a campaign manager.
Politico has the story—Tea Party insurgent Marco Rubio strategist Pat Shortridge has signed on. This is good news for Rossi who's facing a challenge from self-identified Tea Partier Clint Didier:
Former Washington gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi has enlisted GOP strategist Pat Shortridge to serve as general consultant for his likely campaign against Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, a Republican consultant tells POLITICO, in the clearest sign yet that Rossi is poised to announce his candidacy.
Shortridge, who is based in Minnesota and serving as a senior strategist for Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio, did not confirm or deny that he's signed on with Rossi, telling POLITICO Monday morning: "I don't have any comment on that. There's a time and a place for everything."
But a GOP consultant who has spoken with Rossi about his plans said the candidate has settled on Shortridge, who has served as a top aide to former Minnesota Rep. Mark Kennedy and former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, to handle overall strategy. Republicans have said they expect Rossi to jump into the race soon and suggested that only staffing hires have delayed his announcement.
