The Return of Bicycle Sundays

By Josh Cohen April 30, 2010

I'm sure this will come as a huge surprise, but I think you should get out on Sunday and go for a ride. Sunday, May 2, marks the return of Lake Washington Bicycle Sundays giving you the perfect excuse to take the family out for a spin or go on a romantic bike date along the water.

Nearly every Sunday from May 2-Sept 26, Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 10 am to 6 p.m. from Mt. Baker Beach to Seward Park. It's a nice, flat stretch of road with fantastic views of Lake Washington.

If you get hungry after all that pedaling, I suggest you try Pert's Deli. It's about a mile north of Mt. Baker Beach on the right side of the road. They make a mean BLT with guacamole that does wonders for the soul after riding the Lake Washington loop. Downtown Columbia City is also just a hop and a jump away from Lake Washington Blvd. Try the peppery biscuits and gravy at Geraldine's Counter, the excellent, moist mofongo at El Pilon, or the "island brunch" at the Carribbean Island Soul.

It doesn't look like we're going to get a repeat of last weekend's sunshine, but if you don't ride when it's a little gray you'd never ride at all.
