One of the world’s most spectacular landscapes hugs the border of Oregon and Washington. One of America’s first designated National Scenic Areas, the Columbia River Gorge famously loses an inch of rainfall per mile as you head east from Portland, transitioning from western Washington’s familiar cool forests to sunnier slopes. Read on for a guide to scenic tastings, dramatic landmarks, sculptural ice cream sundaes and a beer scene that rivals the wine.
