Bagels for days at Westman's original Capitol Hill location.

Bagels All Around

Monica Dimas expanded her bagelry business twofold with a commissary bakeshop in Seward Park this spring and Westman’s Cafe arriving shortly thereafter.

Sandwich Shop Swap

The founders of Ballard’s Mean Sandwich have passed the condiment spatula to new owner Dan Crookston, a former oyster salesguy, who’s married to restaurateur Renee Erickson.

Nordic Drinking

After much delay, Skål recently opened in Ballard’s historically Scandinavian environs. The Viking-styled beer hall likewise hews to European flavors: meads, ciders, aquavit cocktails.

Rock and Rosé

Washington winemaker Charles Smith brings Jet City Rosé Experience to his urban winery in Georgetown for a third year of spirited live music and pink wine tastings on June 1.

Burger Updates

Portland’s Little Big Burger chainlet, which opened a Wallingford location last fall, has brought forth two more spots this year, one on Capitol Hill and, soon, another in Greenlake.
