This Week in Restaurant News: Halal Guys and Pizza Milestones

Now serving imaginative sandwiches and deep-fried chunks of baked potato.
Open
Copal
Surprise. The former home of Bar Sajor now serves up tacos, smoked pumpkin quesadillas, and other Latin American-toned fare. The chef overseeing the wood-powered grill and oven is the same guy behind the former, tiny, excellent Taco Gringos.
Mean Sandwich
A humble corner in Ballard is now a very intriguing new sandwich shop.
Windy City Pie
Huzzah! The town's best deep-dish pizza now has an actual dining room, inside Batch 206 Distillery's new bar.
Pressed Juicery
The LA-based juice company just opened its first Seattle location in Westlake Center (street level, beneath the monorail), with additional outposts due in Belleveue, Queen Anne, and Capitol Hill.
Closing
The Wurst Place
Arrgh. This gnome-loving South Lake Union beer and sausage house announced on Facebook it must vacate the premises by February—the building's going to be town down and, presumably, redeveloped. This is a damn shame, of all the (relative) newcomers in the neighborhood, this place always had an old soul; go have a brat and and IPA between now and February.
Coming Soon
The Halal Guys
What began as a humble cart in NYC is now a national gyro juggernaut. The company has franchised its first Seattle location. It's not sharing location just yet, but look for sauced-up gyro and chicken-rice platters come spring.
Good Causes
Locust Cider
The Woodinville Cidery now donates a portion of all its sales to finding better treatments for hydrocephalus, a condition that causes fluid to build in the brain, but doesn't receive much in the way of research funding. It's a cause particularly dear to founder Jason Spears: His daughter Lucy is a toddler and has already received four brain surgeries to treat this condition. Consider this another reason to check out Locust, besides its lineup of dry, sweet, and fruited ciders, all made with Washington apples.
