Just Like That, Windy City Pie Is a Pizzeria

Well, technically Windy City is partnering with Batch 206 Distillery to provide food in the distillery's newly minted onsite watering hole, Batch Bar. But you get the gist: The city's best Chicago-style pizza now has a place of its own.
Windy City Pie owner Dave Lichterman has been wowing the city with his deep-dish pies—a soft, almost brioche-like crust, a carefully calibrated meat/cheese/sauce ratio, and that all-important ring of crisply caramelized cheese around the edge. His fan base is all the more impressive considering Windy City Pie only accepts orders online, for pickup outside its commissary kitchen (or delivery via Caviar). In October, Lichterman moved his kitchen ops to Batch 206 in Interbay; now he will actually serve food there as well.
By the end of the week, he says, the distillery's new Batch Bar will serve his pizza alongside its lineup of drinks, including local beer and wine. Some of his pies will even be available by the slice. This is exciting news—while Windy City's pies aren't the gut bomb of a typical deep-dish pizza, they are pretty damn filling. Lichterman's added a few more combos to Windy City's menu of whole pies, plus a side salad and some garlic brioche. You can't reserve seats, says Lichterman, but you can order pies in advance. Which might be a good idea.
All this pizza excitement launches later this week, though Lichterman's not yet ready to name a specific day. Batch Bar's hours will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4-10, and weekends from 12-10; FYI it's 21+. Address: 1417 Elliott Ave W.
Windy City Pie will still take online orders for daytime pickups during the week, except on Tuesdays. Got all that? The Windy City Pie website and Facebook page can help you sort it all out...and let you know when Batch Bar is officially open. Here's the full menu.
