Thrilla in Manilla: Mom's Filipino Stew's Part 2 at Hot Stove Society
After experiencing harsh winters in Chicago with the reward of a hearty stew from his mom's kitchen, T-Doug social media guru (and able cook) Herschell Taghap recreates his childhood favorites. Taghap second's weather class demonstrates how to prepare Bulalo, a bonemarrow soup with hearty vegetables; Pancit Sotanghon, Filipino chicken noodle soup; Dinuguan, know as "chocolate stew" consisting of pork offal, pork blood, and peppers; and Champorado, a rice porridge flavored with chocolate and cream. Tickets are $85 and includes a glass of wine or beer.

The Taco Cleanse at Book Larder
Press the refresh button with authors and vegan taco scientists Stephanie Bogdanich and Jessica Morris as they talk about clean eating with their vegan taco approach. The plant-based diet leans on wholesome foods like avocados, tortillas, and beans, and if you think alcohol is banished from this lifestyle, fear not. The Austin authors will share a favorite recipe, answer questions to create cleansing tacos, and sign copies of their book from 11am–noon

Robert Burns Night Dinner at 926 Events
John Sundstrom's annual supper in honor of Scottish poet Robert Burns also calls for an equally Scottish supper of smoked oysters, potato and wild mushroom croquettes, and sticky toffee pudding. Sundstrom will also serve his take on the traditional dish haggis (a savory pudding) with braised lamb to toast with a glass of scotch or Naked City Brewing's special scotch ale. Selected beverages will also do double duty and assist in the after dinner drinking songs and crowd participation for a lively night of performance. Dinner starts at 6:30pm and tickets are $100, which includes wine and beer. 

Mon, January 18
'How We Learn to Eat' at Town Hall
Food writer Bee Wilson dives into questions like at what age do we start like vegetables and how do family habits influence taste preference during her author talk. Her new book First Bite, guides the discussion to help begin answering these questions as well as calling upon her previous book Consider the Fork that traces the history of cooking and eating. Tickets are $5 and doors open at 7pm, attendees also gain admission to Elie Sternberg's 6pm talk.

Tickets on Sale for Belgianfest 
Nab tickets to the annual beer festival to shave $5 off the $40 at-the-door fee. Over 40 Washington breweries and 100 Belgian-style and -influenced brews will be hosted at the event. Two separate sessions will be held, the first from noon–4pm followed by a second from 5:30pm–9:30pm. Each session requires separate tickets but both include a tasting glass and 10 four-ounce samples.
